KUBTEC announced today that the US Patent Office has granted the company an additional patent for its technology used for breast specimen imaging using 3-D tomosynthesis.

New research presented at the American Society of Breast Surgeons Annual Conference in Las Vegas indicates that intraoperative use of 3-D specimen tomosynthesis enables breast surgeons and radiologists to significantly reduce their re-excision rates compared to traditional 2-D imaging.

A study presented at this year’s European Congress of Radiology has concluded that adding digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT) is emerging as promising technology for surgical planning, as it offers a better view of lesion margins than mammography alone, said Dr. Alessia Milan from the University of Turin.
